StatusAceh.net - Presiden Amerika Serikat Donald Trump menominasikan mantan Gubernur Utah, Jon Huntsman, menjadi Duta Besar AS untuk Rusia yang baru.

Saat mengumumkan pencalonan Huntsman lewat sebuah keterangan pers, Gedung Putih salah menuliskan nama lengkapnya.

Mereka menuliskan nama John Huntsman Jr dalam keterangan pers yang disebarkan ke media-media AS. Padahal, penulisan yang benar adalah Jon Huntsman Jr.

Huntsman bukan sosok baru di pemerintahan AS. Ia pernah mencalonkan diri jadi calon presiden lewat Partai Republik pada 2010 lalu.

Karier diplomatiknya pun mentereng. Dia pernah dua kali jadi dubes, yaitu di Singapura dan China.

Saat Trump jadi presiden, namanya sempat masuk bursa pencalonan calon Menteri Luar Negeri AS, sebelum akhirnya jabatan tersebut diemban oleh bos ExxonMobil Rex Tillerson.

Bertugas di Negeri Beruang Merah, Huntsman mengemban tugas sangat berat. Ia akan menjalani masa jabatannya, di tengah-tengah investigasi mengenai keterlibatan Rusia dalam Pemilu AS 2016.

Terpilihnya Huntsman, sebenarnya mengejutkan publik AS, karena ia dan Trump dikenal kerap berseteru.

Ketika pemilu 2016 berlangsung, Huntsman adalah sosok penting Partai Republik yang telat memberikan dukungan terhadap Trump.

Dukungan terhadap Trump baru dikeluarkan usai miliarder nyentrik ini sudah dipastikan jadi capres Partai Republik.

Meski demikian, dukungan tersebut tak lama diusung Huntsman. Pria tersebut memutuskan menarik sokongan setelah video komentar "kotor" Trump mengenai perempuan tersebar.

Saat Huntsman jadi Dubes AS untuk China, Trump pernah menyerangnya lewat berbagai tweet, termasuk menyebut pria tersebut sosok lemah, dangkal, dan telah membiarkan China berbuat lebih banyak di dunia dibanding AS.
